Views is pleased have received planning permission from Manchester City Council to create 66 new homes, 20% (13) of which will be affordable, at the site of the former Burnage Cricket Club, located at the corner of Kingsway and Mauldeth Road, Manchester. The company was supported by planning consultants Asteer for the submission.
There will be 53 houses – seven, three bedroom and 46 four bedroom houses and 13 one bedroom apartments over two small blocks.
Each house will have its own private back garden and front driveway with parking for one car. EV charging infrastructure will be provided as well as secure cycle parking. 47 new trees will be planted together with a range of indigenous flowers and shrubs that will attract and support birds, insects and bees.
Ollier Smurthwaite Architects designed the homes and have taken inspiration from nearby Burnage Garden Village, created by John Horner Hargreaves and opened in 1910. The garden village movement emerged as a response to industrialisation and urbanisation and to provide residents with a better quality life and a strong connection to the natural environment.
Patrick Sheridan, senior development managerOur plans for the former Burnage Cricket Club will provide much needed new family homes to the area.
“Encouragingly, the majority of feedback from our well attended public consultation event was positive and we have been able to help address concerns raised about potential increase in local traffic by adding a new pedestrian and cycle link onto Kingsway. We hope this will encourage residents to choose walking and cycling for local trips. It will also improve the pedestrian route to Mauldeth Road station, further connecting the community. We look forward to moving this scheme forward after this positive decision.”
Cricket has not been formally played at Burnage Cricket Club since around 2011 but a condition attached to Views being able to develop the site is the provision of funding for a replacement cricket pitch.
Views aims to start on site next year through its in-house construction division and envisages the homes will be complete by late 2027.
